Mauer played football, basketball and baseball for Saint Paul's Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders. Cretin-Derham Hall High School ( CDH) is a private co-educational Catholic high school located in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Mauer attended the same high school as Baseball Hall of Famer and former Minnesota Twin, Paul Molitor.
