Hayne made his first grade debut with the Eels on 19 May, 2006 against the Penrith Panthers at CUA Stadium. Hayne was involved in a shooting incident in King's Cross in the early hours of 3 March, 2008. Kings Cross is an inner-city locality of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Hayne and two team-mates were reported to have been shot at while walking along Ward Street. No one was injured in the incident. [8]
