Janet Louise Yellen (Born August 13, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY) is an economist and president of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco is the federal bank for the twelfth district in the United States Dr. Yellen is Professor Emeritus at the University of California at Berkeley where she was the Eugene E. and Catherine M. Trefethen Professor of Business and Professor of Economics and has been a faculty member since 1980.

Dr. Yellen graduated summa cum laude from Brown University with a degree in economics in 1967, and received her PhD in Economics from Yale University in 1971. Brown University is a highly esteemed private University located in Providence, Rhode Island and is a member of the Ivy League. She received the Wilbur Cross Medal from Yale in 1997, an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Brown in 1998, and an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Bard College in 2000. Bard College, founded in 1860 is a small selective four-year liberal arts college located in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.

Since 1980, she has been conducting research at the Haas School and teaching macroeconomics to full-time and part-time MBA students. The Master of Business Administration ( MBA) is a Master's degree in Business administration, which attracts people from a wide range of academic disciplines Twice she has been awarded the Haas School's outstanding teaching award. In addition, she served as chair of the President's Council of Economic Advisers from 1997 to 1999, and was a member of the Federal Reserve System's Board of Governors from 1994 to 1997. The Council of Economic Advisers (CEA is a group of Economists who advise the President of the United States. She has taught at Harvard University and at the London School of Economics. The London School of Economics and Political Science, more commonly referred to as The London School of Economics or LSE, is a specialist college of the Yellen serves as president of the Western Economic Association International and is a former vice president of the American Economic Association. The American Economic Association, or AEA, is the oldest and most important professional organization in the field of Economics. She is a fellow of the Yale Corporation.
