James Glenn Beall (June 5, 1894 – January 14, 1971) was a Republican member of the United States Senate, representing the State of Maryland from 1953-1965. Beall was born in Frostburg, Maryland, and attended the public schools and later Gettysburg College. For the NSA computer see FROSTBURG. Following the insurance business, Beall became a member of the Allegany County Road Commission in 1923. He resigned in 1930 to serve a term in the State senate, from 1930-1934. Beall went on to be a member and chairman of the Maryland State Road Commission from 1938-1939.
Beall was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-eighth and to the four succeeding Congresses, serving from 1943-1953. Beall was successfully elected to the United States Senate as a Republican in 1952, and was reelected in 1958.
In the 1964 election, Beall lost his bid for re-election to Democratic candidate Joseph D. Tydings. Joseph Davies Tydings (born May 4, 1928) was a Democratic member of the United States Senate, representing the state of Maryland He later returned to Frostburg and resumed his insurance business.
James Glenn Beall died in Frostburg and is buried in the Frostburg Memorial Park. His son, John Glenn Beall, Jr., later became a senator from Maryland. John Glenn Beall Jr ( June 19 1927 – March 24 2006) was a Republican member of the United States Senate, representing
