Arreak was elected to the Northwest Territories Legislature in the 1979 Northwest Territories general election. The Northwest Territories general election 1979 was the fourteenth general election in the Northwest Territories history He won the Baffin South electoral district defeating incumbent Ipeelee Kilabuk.
