J. Mahendran (born: Alexander) is legendary director in Kollywood. Tamil cinema or Kollywood ( Tamil: கோலிவுட் kōlivūṭ) is the English name of the popular Tamil Film Industry based in the Mahendran made an immediate impact with his first film Mullum Mallarum (1978). His next film Udhiripookal (1979) was based on a short story written by Pudumaipithan, firmly established him as an important film maker. His work stands apart stylistically, with a penchant for realism and sincerity of approach.
