History
A previous First Division North (note the slightly different name) existed for two seasons from 2002-03 till 2003-04.
The division was formed from a merger of the Isthmian League First Division and the Isthmian League Second Division at the end of the 2001-02 season, the idea being to reduce travel distance for teams in the Isthmian league. However, the creation of the Conference South reduced the number of teams in the Isthmian League, meaning only one First Division was necessary.
