There are currently 57 unions with membership of the ICTU, representing about 500,000 members[1]. Trade Union members represent 31. 5% of the Irish workforce. This is a significant decline since the 55. 3% recorded in 1980 and the 38. 5% reported in 2003. Members are mainly concentrated in the Public Sector [2].
The supreme policy-making body of the ICTU is the Biennial Delegate Conference, to which affiliated unions send delegates. On a day-to-day basis the ICTU is run by an Executive Committee and a staffed secretariat headed up by the General Secretary.
