The team initailly held a "Name the Team" contest, where the choices were Corncobs, Maize, River Rats, Scarecrows, and Thoroughbreds. [1] However, the team later announced that, because of general fan dislike, none of these names would be the team name. The team name, Iowa Energy, and the logo were announced on June 29. On November 23, they won their first-ever game, a 101-99 win at Dakota. The Dakota Wizards are an American Basketball team in the NBA Development League, and the current defending champions They defeated Albuquerque, 101-98, in their inaugural home game in front of a league-record 8,842 fans. The Albuquerque Thunderbirds is the name of an NBA Development League minor league Basketball team based in Albuquerque New Mexico, United States [3]
On March 11,2008 Iowa Energy made D-League history when they made the first ever 3 team trade that sent Rio Grande Valley Vipers Adam Haluska to Iowa, Iowa Energy guard Mike Efevberha was sent to the Anaheim Arsenal, and Arsenal forward Ivan Johnson, who was sent to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. The Rio Grande Valley Vipers are a team of the NBA Development League which began play in 2007. Adam Haluska (born November 16, 1983 in Carroll Iowa) is an American professional Basketball player The Anaheim Arsenal joined the NBA Development League as an expansion team for the 2006-07 season
For their second season, they have dropped the Miami Heat as their affiliate, replacing them with the Phoenix Suns. The Phoenix Suns are a professional Basketball team based in Phoenix Arizona. [4]
