Origin

Efforts to catalog Disney comic stories on a large scale date back to the late 1970s and early 1980s. This article is about the Decade 1970-1979 For the Year 1970 see 1970. The 1980s was the decade spanning from January 1 1980 to December 31 1989. Among the most important works are an index of Disney comics published in Denmark,[4] a list of stories produced in Italy,[5] a list of American daily strips and sunday pages,[6] an index of American Dell Disney comics[7] and a Carl Barks index. The Kingdom of Denmark ( ˈd̥ænmɑɡ̊ (archaic ˈd̥anmɑːɡ̊ commonly known as Denmark, is a country in the Scandinavian region of northern Europe Italy (Italia officially the Italian Republic, (Repubblica Italiana is located on the Italian Peninsula in Southern Europe, and on the two largest Dell Comics was the Comic book publishing arm of Dell Publishing, which got its start in Pulp magazines. Carl Barks ( March 27, 1901 &ndash August 25, 2000) was a famous Disney Studio illustrator and Comic book creator who [8] All these lists include artists and writer credits that were previously unknown.

In August 1992, Per Starbäck (from Sweden) created the Disney Comics Mailing List. Year 1992 ( MCMXCII) was a Leap year starting on Wednesday (link will display full 1992 Gregorian calendar) "Sverige" redirects here For other uses see Sweden (disambiguation and Sverige (disambiguation. [9] Members soon contributed lists of Disney comics and gave references for printed indexes. In May 1994, expanding on information exchanged on the mailing list, Harry Fluks (from the Netherlands) created a database to organize comic indexes, and called it the Disney Comics Database. Year 1994 ( MCMXCIV) was a Common year starting on Saturday (link will display full 1994 Gregorian calendar) The Netherlands ( Dutch:, ˈnedərlɑnt is the European part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which consists of the Netherlands the Netherlands [10]

In 1999, a German member suggested the name Inducks as a cross between "index" and "duck" (for Donald Duck). Year 1999 ( MCMXCIX) was a Common year starting on Friday (link will display full 1999 Gregorian calendar) For duck as a food see Duck (food; for other meanings see Duck (disambiguation. Donald Duck is a cartoon character from The Walt Disney Company. It was playfully written I. N. D. U. C. K. S. to resemble acronyms seen in Junior Woodchucks comics. In Disney 's fictional universe The Junior Woodchucks are the Boy Scouts of America -like youth organization to which Donald Duck 's nephews Huey Dewey [11] While the administrators claim "I. N. D. U. C. K. S. " is supposed to stand for something, no meaning has been selected to date, though several suggestions have been offered by the administrators themselves, including "Internet Database for Uncle Walt's Comics and Stories", "International Network for Disney Universal Comic Knowledge and Sources", and even "Inducks: The Name for the Disney Universe Comics Knowledge System". A backronym (or bacronym) is a Phrase that is constructed "after the fact" from a previously existing word or Abbreviation, the abbreviation Walter Elias Disney (December 5 1901 – December 15 1966 was a multiple Academy Award -winning American Film producer, director, Screenwriter [12]

Over the years, a web search interface was introduced, later replaced by a second search engine, COA,[13] in 2001. Year 2001 ( MMI) was a Common year starting on Monday according to the Gregorian calendar.

Data details

The INDUCKS database lists publications, stories, characters and creators which are cross-referenced. Disney comics are Comic books and Comic strips featuring Walt Disney characters Each story is given a unique "storycode"[14] so that reprints (often from all over the world) may be found for any story. A large number of Disney comics publications are indexed for the following countries: Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Italy, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden and USA. INDUCKS integrates previous studies and research works, with permission of the authors,[16] as well as its own research. Thanks to contacts with creators,[17] it provides credits to anonymous (or wrongly-credited) stories. In particular, most Disney comics weren't given credits until the 1980s or 1990s. Disney comics are Comic books and Comic strips featuring Walt Disney characters It also contains information about unpublished Disney comics stories. [18]

Nowadays the main interface to INDUCKS is a search engine, browser and website abbreviated COA, which is daily updated based on Inducks data, and is available in thirteen languages. While COA uses Inducks data, it is not part of Inducks itself, but it enables users to navigate and search data which in its raw form consists of very user-unfriendly text files. [19] It has a few other features not part of Inducks, like a collection management system and an error tracker tool. [20]

Use as a source and in publications

Although parts of the database have been published in book form[21] and in specialized journals,[22] Inducks is most often used as a source by comic book historians in articles devoted to Disney comics. Disney comics are Comic books and Comic strips featuring Walt Disney characters [23]

INDUCKS is also used by Disney editors around the world. [24] It is mentioned as a source by scholars[25] and is referenced in books about comics in general. [26] It has once been criticized for being a catalog of data rather than true (semantic) indexing work. [27]

INDUCKS sometimes gave talks and held meetings in comic-book fairs in Italy, such as in Lucca in 1997 with Don Rosa and Marco Rota[28] and in Reggio Emilia in 2007[29] and 2008. Italy (Italia officially the Italian Republic, (Repubblica Italiana is located on the Italian Peninsula in Southern Europe, and on the two largest Lucca is a city in Tuscany, northern central Italy, situated on the river Serchio in a fertile plain near (but not on the Ligurian Sea Keno Don Hugo Rosa (often just called Don Rosa) (born June 29, 1951) is a comic book writer and illustrator best known for his stories about Scrooge Marco Rota (born September 18, 1942) is an Italian Disney comic artist who served as editor-in-chief of Disney Italia from 1974 to 1988 For the city in the southern Italy See Reggio Calabria.
