Huj (Arabic: هوج‎) is a former Palestinian village located 15km northeast of Gaza City. Capture by Israelis

During the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, Egyptian forces took control of Huj. The Egyptian Army is the largest service branch within the Egyptian military establishment. Israel's Negev Brigade captured the town on May 31, 1948. The Negev Brigade (aka 12th Brigade Hativat HaNagev in Hebrew) was an Israeli infantry brigade that served in the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. The town's inhabitants fled toward the Gaza Strip and in 1998 numbered nearly 6,000.
