Subtribe Hominina

Hominini is the tribe of Homininae that only includes humans (Homo) and chimpanzees (Pan), and their extinct ancestors. In Biology, a tribe &mdashor infrafamily&mdashis a Taxonomic rank between family and Genus. Homininae is a subfamily of Hominidae, including Humans and some extinct relatives as well as the Gorillas and the Chimpanzees It comprises Homo is the Genus that includes modern humans and their close relatives Chimpanzee (often shortened to chimp) is the common name for the two extant Species of Apes in the Genus Pan. In Biology and Ecology, extinction is the cessation of existence of a Species or group of taxa. Members of the tribe are called hominins (cf. Hominidae, "hominids"). A hominid is any member of the biological family Hominidae (the "great apes" including the extinct and extant Humans Chimpanzees The subtribe Hominina is the "human" branch, including genus Homo and its close relatives, but not Pan. In Biology, a tribe &mdashor infrafamily&mdashis a Taxonomic rank between family and Genus. The more Anthropomorphic Primates of the Hominini tribe are placed in the Hominina subtribe

The creation of this taxon is the result of the current idea that the least similar species of a trichotomy should be separated from the other two. Through DNA comparison, scientists believe the Pan/Homo divergence was completed between 5. Deoxyribonucleic acid ( DNA) is a Nucleic acid that contains the genetic instructions used in the development and functioning of all known 4 to 6. 3 million years ago, after an unusual process of speciation that ranged over four million years. Speciation is the Evolutionary process by which new biological Species arise [1] It is interesting to note that no fossil species on the Pan side of the split have been determined; all of the extinct genera listed to the right are ancestral to Homo, or are offshoots of such. However, both Orrorin and Sahelanthropus existed around the time of the split, and so may be ancestral to both humans and chimpanzees. Orrorin tugenensis is considered to be the oldest known Hominin ancestor related to modern Humans and is the only species classified in genus Sahelanthropus tchadensis is a Fossil Ape that lived approximately 7-6 Million years ago.

In the proposal of Mann and Weiss (1996),[2] the tribe Hominini includes Pan as well as Homo as separate subtribes. Homo (and, by inference, all bipedal apes) is by itself only in the subtribe Hominina, while Pan is in the Panina subtribe. The more Anthropomorphic Primates of the Hominini tribe are placed in the Hominina subtribe
