Hollis and Eastern operates track that was originally opened by the Wichita Falls and Northwestern Railway and the Wichita Falls and Southern Railway in 1912. Both railroads were soon purchased by the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (MKT). The Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (reporting marks MKT) was incorporated May 23, 1870.
The Hollis and Eastern was incorporated on October 15, 1958, beginning operations on the former MKT Wellington branch on May 15, 1959.
