The principal of the school is Dr. Lorraine Cella. [2] Hoboken High School has a large musical theatre group. [3] The school's mascot is the Redwings.
Hoboken High School has been an IB World School since August 1994, offering students the IB Diploma Programme. History
The current Hoboken High School was built in the mid-1960s. Prior to that time, A. J. Demarest High School, dedicated in the autumn of 1911, served as the city's high school. [5] When the current high school was built, Demarest became a Jr. High School (grades 8-9), and is currently one of two middle schools in the district. The first principal of Hoboken HS was Tom Gaynor - Boys were required to wear button down shirts with ties and a jacket or sweater - long hair was frowned on by Mr. Gaynor.
In 1997, one of the school's history teachers, John A. Sacci, was shot and killed by Geraisimov Metaxas, who then shot and killed himself. [6]

The student body of the school is 67% Hispanic, 20% Black, 11% White, 2% Asian, and 1% Native American. [7]
Athletics
The Hoboken High School Redwings compete in the Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic Association (HCIAA), which includes private and parochial high schools in Hudson County. The Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic Association (HCIAA is a New Jersey high school sports association operating under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey The league operates under the supervision of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA). The 2005 football team won the North II, Group I state sectional championship with a 21-6 win over Verona High School. Verona High School is a four-year Public high school, serving students in 9th through 12th grade as part of the Verona Public Schools in Verona, in [9]
The softball team won the North II, Group I sectional title in 2007, edging Secaucus High School 8-7 in 14 innings in the tournament final. Secaucus High School is a four-year comprehensive Public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grade from Secaucus, in Hudson County [10][11] The baseball team matched the feat, earning the North II, Group I title with a 5-4 win against Lyndhurst High School. Lyndhurst High School is a four-year comprehensive Public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grade from Lyndhurst, in Bergen County [12][13]
