Hillingdon was an ancient parish, and had within it the chapelry of Uxbridge, which became a separate civil parish in 1866. A Chapelry was a subdivision of an Ecclesiastical parish in England, and certain areas of Lowland Scotland up to the mid 19th Century Uxbridge is a university town in the London Borough of Hillingdon in West London, England. In 1894, under the Local Government Act 1894, Hillingdon parish was divided into two: with Hillingdon West becoming, with Uxbridge, part of the Uxbridge Urban District, and Hillingdon East becoming part of the Uxbridge Rural District. The Local Government Act 1894 (56 & 57 Vict c 73 created a system of Urban districts and Rural districts with elected councils in all areas of England Uxbridge was a local government district in north west Middlesex from 1849 to 1965 around the town of Uxbridge.
