The civil parish is made up of a number of settlements: Hermitage village, Little Hungerford and Wellhouse, consisting of some 1154 people in 444 houses [1]. The village sits on the B4009, five miles north-east of Newbury in the heart of the North Wessex Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
