Herman IV, Duke of Swabia

Herman IV (died 1038) was the Duke of Swabia (1030–1038). The following is a list of Dukes of Swabia in southwest Germany He was the second son of Ernest I and Gisela of Swabia. Ernest I (died March 31 or May 31 1015 was Duke of Swabia (1012&ndash1015 Gisela of Swabia (989 or 990 – February 14 1043 in Goslar) was the daughter of Herman II of Swabia and Gerberga of Burgundy He was one of the Babenberg dukes of Swabia.

Herman became duke in 1030 following the death of his older brother Ernest II. Ernest II (died August 17, 1030) was Duke of Swabia from 1015 to 1030 At the time he was still a minor.

Seven years later, his stepfather, the Emperor Conrad II, married him to Adelaide of Susa, the marchioness of Turin, in January 1037. Conrad II (c 990&ndash June 4, 1039) was the son of a mid-level nobleman in Franconia, Count Henry of Speyer and Adelaide of Alsace who inherited Adelaide of Susa (also Adelheid, Adelais, or Adeline; 1016 &ndash 19 December 1091) was the Marchioness of Turin The county or march of Turin (sometimes march of Susa) was founded in 941 by Hugh of Italy, who appointed Arduin Glaber as its governor In July of the next year, while campaigning with Conrad in Southern Italy, he was struck down by an epidemic near Naples.
