It is in the north of the country (Lower Egypt), and covers a stretch of the Nile Valley. Lower Egypt is the northern-most section of Egypt. It refers to the fertile Nile Delta region which stretches from the area between El-Aiyat and Zawyet Its capital is the city of Helwan. Helwan, also spelled Hilwan or Hulwan or Holwan, is a place in Egypt on the bank of the Nile river opposite the ruins of Memphis In April 2008, parts of the administrative division of the Cairo governorate was split into two, Cairo and Helwan, with Helwan encompassing most of the suburbs of Cairo, new compounds and rural southern villages. Helwan became the capital of the new Helwan governorate.
