Life and career

Vendler has written books on W. B. Yeats, Wallace Stevens, John Keats and Seamus Heaney. Wallace Stevens ( October 2, 1879 – August 2, 1955) was a major American Modernist Poet. She is the A. Kingsley Porter University Professor at Harvard University, where she has had a position since 1981. She has taught at Smith and Boston University. She married (then later divorced) the philosopher Zeno Vendler with whom she had one son. Zeno Vendler (1921 – 2004 was a Hungarian-born philosopher He was born and brought up in Hungary in 1921 In 1992 Vendler received a Litt. D. from Bates College. Bates College is a private liberal arts college located in Lewiston Maine, in the United States.

Vendler did not major in English as an undergraduate. She earned an A. B. in chemistry at Emmanuel College. She was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship for mathematics, before earning her Ph. The Fulbright Program, including the Fulbright-Hays Program, is a program of grants for international educational exchange for scholars educators graduate D. in English & American Literature from Harvard.
