History

Early inhabitants of the local area were the Pomo people, who constructed villages in open areas along the Russian River. A village is a clustered human settlement or community, larger than a hamlet, but smaller than a Town or City. ^[7] European settlement commenced in the mid 1800s, with the first Caucasian settlement nearby established downstream along the Russian River near Graton in the year 1836.
