Within the next five years, the Port Authority plans to drastically modernize Harrison through a $173 million renovation of the station. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey ( PANYNJ) is a bi-state Port district, established in 1921 (as the Port of New York Authority) through Funding for this project will arise from a pending toll and fare hike, which will significantly increase the spending budget of the corporation. The new station will feature longer platforms for additional cars, wider platforms for an increased amount of standing room, and street-level-to-platform elevators in compliance with ADA regulations, as well as architectural modifications to its appearance.
Harrison station also lies in close proximity to the Red Bull Park stadium site and will provide convenient public transit access for sports fans when the stadium is completed. It will be also located near the future Northern New Jersey World Trade Center[1].
