The hammerjaw or omosudid, Omosudis lowii, is a small deep-sea aulopiform fish, found worldwide in tropical and temperate waters to 4,000 m (13,000 ft) depth. Albrecht Karl Ludwig Gotthilf Günther FRS (also Albert Charles Lewis Gotthilf Gunther) October 3, 1830 – February 1 Year 1887 ( MDCCCLXXXVII) was a Common year starting on Saturday (link will display the full calendar of the Gregorian calendar (or a Common Deep sea fish is a term for Fish that live below the Photic zone of the ocean Aulopiformes is an order of Ray-finned fish consisting of thirteen living families of marine fish Fish are aquatic Vertebrate animals that are typically ectothermic (previously Cold-blooded) covered with scales, and equipped with two It is the only representative of its family, Omosudidae (from the Greek omo, "shoulder", and Latin sudis, either "esox, fish of the Rhine" or "stake"). Physical description

The large head is dominated by a massive, truncated lower jaw and large, high-set eyes. The jaw is either of the two opposable structures forming or near the entrance to the Mouth. Eyes are organs that detect Light, and send signals along the Optic nerve to the visual areas of the brain The lower jaw has a dark, almost black distal end,"chin". The lower jaw possesses at least one pair of oversized, transparent, and daggerlike teeth; the palatines possess 1–4 pairs of slightly smaller teeth. The palatine bone is a Bone in the Palate (Latin palatum; unrelated to palatium 'palace' from which other senses of Palatine derive The body itself is scaleless and laterally compressed; it is covered in iridescent, silvery-gray guanine with the dark peritoneum peaking through in places. In most biological nomenclature a scale ( Greek lepid, Latin squama) is a small rigid plate that grows out of an Animal Iridescence is an Optical phenomenon in which Hue changes with the angle from which a surface is viewed Guanine is one of the five main Nucleobases found in the Nucleic acids DNA and RNA, the others being Adenine, Cytosine, In higher Vertebrates the peritoneum is the Serous membrane that forms the lining of the abdominal cavity &mdash it covers most of the intra-abdominal Dark smoky gray dorsally, the body tapers strongly towards a thin caudal peduncle (which has a dermal keel) and deeply forked caudal fin. Life history

Very little is known of the hammerjaw's life history. It inhabits the mesopelagic and bathypelagic zones down to 4,000 m and is never caught in large numbers. Any water in the sea that is not close to the bottom is in the pelagic zone. It is inferred from their sporadic capture and sleek morphology that hammerjaws are swift swimmers—capable of avoiding sampling nets. Hammerjaws appear to spawn year-round; like many other deep-sea aulopiform fish, they are hermaphrodites. Spawning is the production or depositing of large quantities of eggs in water A hermaphrodite is an organism having both male and female reproductive organs They are carnivorous and feed on squid and other pelagic fish; in turn, hammerjaws are known prey of lancetfish and tuna. A carnivore (ˈkɑrnɪvɔər meaning 'meat eater' ( Latin carne meaning 'flesh' and vorare meaning 'to devour' is any animal with a diet consisting Squid are marine Cephalopods of the order Teuthida, which comprises around 300 species For the United States Navy Submarine, see USS Lancetfish (SS-296 Lancetfishes are large Oceanic Predatory Tuna, are several Species of ocean-dwelling Fish in the family Scombridae, mostly in the genus Thunnus.
