The Haltom City Police Department (HCPD) serves the city of Haltom City, Texas in Tarrant County. Haltom City is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. Texas ( is a state geographically located in the South Central United States and is also known as the Lone Star State. Tarrant County is a County located in the US state of Texas. As of 2007 it had a population of 1717435 The HCPD consists of approximately 100 sworn and civilian employees. It has been headed by Chief Ken Burton since 2003.

Department Information

Haltom City is divided into 5 patrol districts. In Military tactics, a patrol is often a small tactical grouping sent out by land sea or air to perform a specific task Each district is assigned a Sergeant, and at least one officer works in a district per 12 hour shift. In addition, there are specialized K-9, Crime Scene, SWAT and Criminal Investigation officers for assignment to special projects and duties. A police dog is a Dog that is trained specifically to assist Police and similar law-enforcement personnel with their work SWAT ( Special Weapons And Tactics) is an elite special operations tactical unit in American Police departments similar to the Taiwan Thunder Squad

Other support departments falling under the police department are animal services, communications, community services, detention and professional standards

The administration is comprised of the Chief of Police, one Assistant Chief, three Lieutenants and an Administrative Assistant. Detention generally refers to a State or Government holding a person in a particular area (generally called a Detention centre) either for Interrogation Two Lieutenants are assigned to the patrol division, and one Lieutenant assists with support staff administration.

Line of Duty Deaths

The HCPD has had one death in the line of duty. [1] On March 6, 1993, Police Officer Gary C. Hires was shot and killed by a 16-year-old with a rifle and killed while responding to a 9-1-1 call of shots fired. 911 (usually pronounced "nine-one-one" is the Emergency telephone number for the North American Numbering Plan (NANP The suspect was also killed in the incident. Officer Hires had been with the agency for 19 years and is survived by his wife, three sons, and two brothers. [2]
