Plot

The Stooges are discharged from the army after World War I, and they promptly administer some revenge to their cruel sergeant, Sgt. MacGillicuddy (Stanley Blystone). Stanley Blystone ( 1 August, 1894 &ndash 16 July, 1956) was an American film actor Years later, they are traveling the streets hungry, when they are tricked into signing up for the army again. Naturally, MacGillicuddy is their new superior.

The Stooges are then assigned to man a coast artillery gun site, and begin practicing their skills. Coastal artillery is the branch of Armed forces concerned with operating anti-ship Artillery or fixed gun batteries in coastal Fortifications. They first hit a smokestack, then a house, next a bridge, and lastly, a battleship, which happens to be the admiral's flagship. A flue gas stack is a type of Chimney, a vertical pipe channel or similar structure through which Combustion product gases called Flue gases are exhausted A battleship is a large heavily armored Warship with a main battery consisting of the largest Calibre of Guns Battleships were The officers and Sgt. MacGillicuddy go to the site to investigate, and the Stooges point fingers at each other as to who is to blame for the hitting. Then the sergeant asks them to line up on one side and stay there for a photo shoot. The Stooges agree, and prepare to pose just as Sgt. MacGillicuddy swings the gun at them.

- Curly: "Oh, corns! I got two on both dogs! Could ya tell me where you keep yer corn blaster, shorty?"

- Commanding officer: "Now, where were you born?"
- Curly: "Oh, born! Upstairs, in the front room!"
- Commanding officer: "Fine soldiers for the coast artillery wouldn't know a shell from a boat!"

The Stooges salute their horse friend in Half Shot Shooters. The horse ( Equus caballus) is a hoofed ( Ungulate) Mammal, one of eight living species of the family Equidae.

- Commanding officer: "Were you born in this country?"

- Moe: "Republican? No, I'm a Democrat. The Democratic Party is one of two major Political parties in the United States, the other being the Republican Party. "

- Capt. A pedestrian is a person travelling on foot whether Walking or Running. Burke: "Who fired those shots?"
- Moe, Larry, and Curly: "I did!"

- Capt. Burke: "Well, you hit the admiral's flagship!"

This is the first Stooges short to feature Vernon Dent, who appeared in more Stooge shorts than any other supporting actor. Vernon Bruce Dent ( February 16, 1895 - November 5, 1963) was a comic actor who co-starred in many short films for Columbia Pictures
The title is a pun on Half Shot at Sunrise (1930) an RKO Radio Pictures movie with Wheeler & Woolsey. Half Shot at Sunrise is a 1930 Slapstick comedy film starting the comedy duo Wheeler & Woolsey and Dorothy Lee. Bert Wheeler ( 7 April 1895 in Paterson New Jersey &ndash 18 January 1968 in New York City) and Robert Woolsey
This is the last Stooges short in which the old Columbia Pictures "torch lady" appears.
