Politics
In 2006 Assembly elections, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya of CPI (M) deafted his nearest rival Tapati Dutta of Trinamool Congress, who had won the 2001 election defeating Amitava Nandi of CPI (M) for the Habra Assembly seat. In 1996, Baren Basu of CPI (M) had defeated his nearest rival Abdul Hamid Mandal of INC. In 1991 and 1987, Kamal Sengupta (Bose) of CPI (M) defeated Biman Dutta of INC. In 1982 Nirode Roy Choudhury defeated Biman Dutta of INC. In 1977 Nirode Roy Choudhury of CPI (M) defeated his nearest rival Krishnadas Chattopadhyay of INC. The municipality is run by Left. [6]
Habra is part of Barasat (Lok Sabha constituency). Barasat (Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 543 parliamentary constituencies in India. [7]
