Due to the ongoing normalisation process in Northern Ireland all existing brigades were amalgamated and the only brigade now under HQNI control is 38 (Irish) brigade which controls all local TA units in the province. The move from Catterick of 19 Light Brigade is now under way and with it come 2 Infantry Battalions, an artillery battalion and one battalion of Royal Engineers. 19 Brigade will be a deployable unit with no responsibility for internal security in the province.

The RAF's presence in Northern Ireland is based at RAF Aldergrove. RAF Aldergrove is a Royal Air Force station situated 18 miles north-west of Belfast. The Royal Navy no longer maintain a regular presence in Northern Ireland waters with the disbandment of the Northern Ireland Squadron. The Northern Ireland Squadron was a unit of the Royal Navy. It was established during the conflict in Northern Ireland known as The Troubles to interdict The Royal Navy's main presence is HMS Caroline, which serves as the HQ of the Royal Naval Reserve's Ulster Division.
