Gulu Lalvani founder and chairman of Binatone, the world’s fourth or fifth largest manufacturer of digital cordless phones. Binatone is a private company owned by brothers Partap and Gulu Lalvani.
Lalvani, born in Karachi and raised in Bombay, came to Britain as a student. He founded Binatone in 1958 with his brothers Katar and Partap to import radios from Hong Kong. In 1989, Partap and he divided the business geographically and both brothers now own their own Binatone groups operating in different parts of the world, whilst Katar has founded Vitabiotics. Today Binatone International Limited is one of the largest privately owned consumer electronics companies in UK. It enjoys nearly 15% market share in the domestic telephone sector in UK.
Other assets include a £32m marina investment in Thailand of which only the first phase has been completed.
Lalvani was one of the initial funders of Sir Alan Sugar's Amstrad. Sir Alan Michael Sugar (born 24 March 1947 is an English Entrepreneur, Businessman, and Television personality.
