History
On October 1, 1998, [1] the club was founded as Guaratinguetá Esporte Clube by a group of people, including Doctor Mário Augusto Rodrigues Nunes, nicknamed Marinho. In 2002, the Consórcio de Guaratinguetá ended, but the club was supported by the entrepreneurs Odário Mardegan Durães and Elmiro Aparecido de Faria. [2]
Since 2004, the club is supported by the entrepreneur Sony Alberto Douer. In 2005, he and the entrepreneur Carlos Arini founded Sony Sports, a company created to manage the club. Guaratinguetá's home stadium is Estádio Dario Rodrigues Leite [5], nicknamed Ninho da Garça, meaning Heron's Nest, [6] with a maximum capacity of 14,415 people. The Campeonato Paulista is the most prestigious football tournament within the state of São Paulo. The herons are wading Birds in the Ardeidae family Some are called Egrets or Bitterns instead of herons [7]
The club also trains at a training ground named Centro de Treinamento Dario Rodrigues Leite. [8]

Nickname
Guaratinguetá is nicknamed Guará, "O Garça" which is Heron in Portuguese and Tricolor do Vale, which means Valley's Three Colors. The Maned Wolf ( Chrysocyon brachyurus) is the largest canid of South America, resembling a big fox with reddish fur [6]
Mascot
The club's mascot is a heron, designed by the artist Renato Guimarães. The herons are wading Birds in the Ardeidae family Some are called Egrets or Bitterns instead of herons The animal is also depicted in the club's logo. [9]
