Groovespot (more properly groove spot) is a disco funk band based in Richmond, Virginia. This article is about the city of Richmond the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Founded in 1997 by Greg Hill and Thomas Young, the band became one of central Virginia's most popular acts selling out shows in nightclubs.

The original band comprised Sean Shields, Chris Perkins, Steve Bider formerly of Mojo Records recording artists The Ernies, along with Hill and Young. Mojo Records was a Record label that was part of Universal Records, based in Santa Monica California. The Ernies were a popular American Alternative rock band from Richmond Virginia. By 1998, the group was headlining local festivals such as Friday Cheers, Innsbrook, and First Fridays in Roanoke. Additionally, they were support artists for national acts such as Average White Band, Jefferson Starship, Tower of Power, Parliament, 10000 Maniacs, KC and the Sunshine Band, and Eddie Money. Jefferson Starship is an American rock band that was popular in the 1970s and 1980s Tower of Power is a 10-member horn-based soul band from Oakland, California. In 1999, the band added new members Chris Leitch, formerly of Mercury RecordsRecording Artists Fighting Gravity, Stefan Demetriadis, formerly of Mojo Records artists The Ernies, and new singer and local music legend, Barbara Wills. Mercury Records is a Record label operating as a standalone company in the UK and as part of the Island Def Jam Music Group in the US and are both subsidiaries of Fighting Gravity is a music group based out of Richmond Virginia. Mojo Records was a Record label that was part of Universal Records, based in Santa Monica California. The Ernies were a popular American Alternative rock band from Richmond Virginia. 2000, saw the addition of Dave Triplet and Chuck Harrel. As of 2006, David Sullivan and Sara Leitch handle the vocal duties.
