Wilson hoped to use the group as a chance to utilize his production talents while Larrieux wanted a chance to shine in R&B.
The group received a deal with Epic Records, and in 1995, they released their self-titled debut album Groove Theory. Epic Records is an American Record label. It is owned and operated by Sony Music Entertainment. Groove Theory is the self-titled debut album by the American R&B / hip hop duo Groove Theory, released in October 1995 (see The album features the hit single "Tell Me" which reached number-five on the Billboard Hot 100 and number-three on the R&B chart. Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, is a chart released weekly by Billboard in the United States. The single was certified gold.
Larrieux left the group in 1999 to pursue a solo career and Makeda Davis replaced her. The group signed with Columbia Records and recorded a new album, The Answer, which was expected for release in 2001. Columbia Records is an American Record label founded in 1888 Columbia is the oldest surviving Brand name in pre-recorded sound being the first record company Before the album was released, the group was dropped from the label.
Today, Larrieux is continuing to pursue her solo career; she has released three solo albums. Wilson has appeared in several films, and he continues to write and produce for other musicians with Davis.
