Grimaldo Canella was a son of Otto Canella and Consul of Genoa in 1162, 1170, and 1184. Otto Canella (born c 1070 died before 1143 was Consul of Genoa in 1133 and an ancestor of the House of Grimaldi, the family that currently rules Consul (abbrev cos; Latin plural consules) was the highest elected office of the Roman Republic and an appointive office under the Empire Genoa ( Genova, ˈdʒɛːnova in Italian; Zena in Genoese and Ligurian; Genua in Latin and archaically in English [1] He is an ancestor and the namesake of the House of Grimaldi, the ruling family of Monaco.
