Great Anabyng is a lyrinx character in Ian Irvine's The Well Of Echoes quartet. Lyrinx are fictional humanoids in Ian Irvine 's quartet The Well of Echoes. Ian Irvine (born 1950 is an Australian Fantasy /eco- thriller author and marine scientist. The Well of Echoes is a quartet of novels written by Ian Irvine and is the second arc of The Three Worlds Cycle series He is a well respected advisor to Matriarch Gyrull and a mancer of supreme talent. Matriarch Gyrull is a secondary character in Ian Irvine 's The Well of Echoes quartet Very little is known about him.
Physically, he is slightly different from most lyrinx as he has a golden crest and usually has black skin (he can still change his skin colour though, so it's not known if this is voluntary). Gilhaelith noted that he is in fact the biggest lyrinx he had ever seen. Gilhaelith is one of the main characters in Ian Irvine 's The Well of Echoes quartet
Anabyng is said to be a great hero of the battle-field and the greatest lyrinx adept of the Secret Art, though Matriarch Gyrull may be an exception, in terms of power with the Art. The Secret Art is effectively "magic" in Ian Irvine 's fictional cycle of series of books The Three Worlds Cycle. This is why he has the title of "Great" Anabyng.
It is thought that Anabyng was once a common lyrinx, as he is known to have earned his honour the hard way, in battle.
