Grant Serpell was a member of several bands during the 60s' and 70s' including Affinity and Sailor, and was an encouraging influence over two of the members of The Hoosiers whilst being their chemistry teacher[1] at Waingels College. Personal Life

Grant married to Michelle Kingsland on the 1st of October 1966. In 1967 Michelle gave birth to the couple's first child Edmund Charles, followed nearly two years later by their second child Charlotte Anna.

Career

Whilst studying for a degree in Chemistry from the University of Sussex Grant became involved with the musical scene and founded The Jazz Quartet and played with the University of Sussex Jazz Trio (known as The U. Chemistry (from Egyptian kēme (chem meaning "earth") is the Science concerned with the composition structure and properties The University of Sussex is a British Campus university which is situated next to the East Sussex village of Falmer, and is from Brighton S. After graduating Grant joined a band called Ice, and then joined the Jazz-Rock band Affinity, before joining the band which has provided him with the most fame Sailor. In 1985, during Sailors quieter times, Grant became a Chemistry teacher at Waingels Copse Comprehensive School (now Waingels College) where he became a head of department. Waingels College (previously Waingels Copse School) is a Co-educational comprehensive Secondary school located in Woodley, He was an excellent teacher and well liked for his friendly teaching style and for several years entertained students by making Christmas trees using a metal stand and various chemical mixtures to form different coloured decorations.

Whilst at Waingels College he taught Irwin Sparkes of The Hoosiers and, after hearing a demo from Irwin and Alphonso Sharland, encouraged them to experience life a little more to help provide inspiration for their songs[3].
