Biography

Terry was born in Decatur, Alabama and learned to play the fiddle at an early age. Decatur is a city in Limestone and Morgan Counties in the US state of Alabama. He made his very first performance on Grand Ole Opry at the age of nine. The Grand Ole Opry is a weekly Country music radio program and concert broadcast live on WSM radio in Nashville, Tennessee He attended fiddlers conventions and won first prize at the Alabama Fiddling Championship in 1946. In 1950, he joined Grand Ole Opry and within a year, he performed and recorded with Bill Monroe. William Smith Monroe ( September 13, 1911 – September 9, 1996) was an American musician who developed the style of music known as Terry served in the army overseas in Korea. In 1981 he was inducted into the Fiddlers Hall of Fame. In the 1980s, he had the Gordon Terry Parkway named after him. He died in 2006 in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
