Since the departure of the Rollers in 1996, reports have often surfaced regarding a new Gold Coast team entering the league [1]. However, the NBL was concerned over the financial security of any such venture. On November 21, 2006, the NBL confirmed that a new Gold Coast based team will join the league in 2007/08, thanks to the work of former Rollers coach David Claxton [2].
