The centre was built during the 1970s and went through substantial facelifts in the 1980s and 1990s. The arrival of the Woolworths Supermarket in the 2000s was a major boost to the centre and the concurrent re-fit that was currently proceeding at the nearby Forestway Shopping Centre served to heighten the relevance of Glenrose Shopping Centre. Location

Glenrose Shopping Centre is located on Glen Street, Belrose.

Glenrose is one of the two shopping centres of choice for residents of the "tri-suburb area". The "Tri-suburb" area or the "tri-sub" as it is known by locals, includes the suburbs of Davidson, Belrose and Frenchs Forest. The tri-suburb area is one part of the "Forest" area, which encompasses the suburbs of Forestville and Killarney Heights (known as the Forest trough). The Forest forms part of the Warringah Council local government area, which itself forms part of the area of Sydney known as the Northern Beaches. Boundaries to Warringah include:

- In the West; The Garigal National Park - In the East; The coastline - In the South; The Killarney Heights side of the Roseville Bridge - In the North; The suburb of Narrabeen. Garigal National Park is a national park in New South Wales ( Australia) 20 km north of central Sydney. Roseville Bridge crosses Middle Harbour in Sydney, Australia. Narrabeen is a beachside suburb in northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia.

Expansion

In 2003 Glenrose was taken over by the Stockland Group, which currently has a development application pending before the Warringah Council to significantly expand retail facilities and parking space at the centre. Woolworths Limited is a major Australian company with extensive retail interest throughout Australia and New Zealand. | industry = Post | products = Postal service, Office supplies, Greeting cards | revenue = $4 This has caused considerable concern among local residents who contend that the scale of the development is inappropriate given the predominantly residential nature of surrounding areas.

Former Shops

A number of notable shops that once operated within Glenrose have now closed down. Previously the centre had two competing supermarkets; Franklins and Payless. Franklins is a discount supermarket chain selling packaged groceries and perishables throughout New South Wales, Australia. After re-development in the late 1990s, Payless closed down and as part of the overall refit of the centre, Franklins moved into the vacated space. A few years later the Franklins store was taken over (owing to financial difficulties) and rebranded as Woolworths, which continues to occupy the space today and is the centre's anchor tenant.

Similarly, Glenrose once sustained two competing video rental stores; Civic Video and Video Ezy. Video Ezy is Australia 's largest video and DVD rental chain with over 550 stores within Australia as well as over 140 stores in New Zealand and 200 throughout South-East Asia Today only Civic remains.
