Giraut de Bornelh (c. 1138 – 1215), also known as Guiraut de Borneil(l), was a troubadour, born to a lower class family in the Limousin, probably in Bourney, near Excideuil. A troubadour ( IPA:, originally) was a composer and performer of Occitan Lyric poetry during the High Middle Ages (1100&ndash1350 Limousin ( Occitan: Lemosin) is a former Province of France around the city of Limoges in central France. Excideuil ( Occitan dialect: Eissiduelh) is a commune in the Dordogne department in Aquitaine in southwestern Connected with the castle of the Viscount of Limoges, his skill earned him the nickname of "Master of the Troubadours". He is credited with the formalisation, if not the invention, of the "light" style, or trobar leu. About ninety of his poems and four of his melodies survive. One of his best pieces is a planh (lament) on the death of Raimbaut of Orange. The planh or plaing is a funeral lament used by the Troubadours modeled on the medieval Latin Planctus. Raimbaut of Orange (c 1147 &ndash 1173 or in Occitan Raimbaut d'Aurenga, was the lord of Orange and Aumelas.
