Gina Thompson (born Lugenia Thompson to Edwad L. Sr. and Eugenia Thompson in Vineland, New Jersey, USA) is a hip hop vocalist. Vineland is a city in Cumberland County, New Jersey, United States. Hip hop is a cultural movement which developed in New York City in the 1970s primarily among African Americans and Latinos. She began singing at an early age and was signed to her first recording contract with Mercury Records shortly after graduating high school. Her first CD entitled Nobody Does It Better (1996 Mercury Records) spawned one hit record entitled " The Things You Do" Badboy remix featuring Missy Elliot. Gina also recorded a song for the NBA @ 50 soundtrack, single entitled "You Bring The Sunshine" produced by Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. Her second album "If You Only Knew" was shelved, although her first single "Ya Di Ya" also featuring Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott reached #12 on the charts. If You Only Knew was Gina Thompson's second album. Her album was set to be released in October 1999. Gina, however, was signed to a new label, The Goldmind Inc., which is Missy Elliott's label. The Goldmind Inc is an American Record label founded by hip hop artist Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott. The album spun off two singles. Her first single, "Ya Di Ya" (featuring Missy Elliott), reached number 12 on the charts. A few weeks later Gina's last single, "Caught Up" (featuring Beanie Sigel), was released, however the single failed to show on the charts. Elektra Records is a now-dormant American Record label owned by Warner Music Group (WMG and from 2004 on operating under WMG's Atlantic Records Today, Gina is currently not in the process of singing, or making a new album, but it's rumored that Gina might be working on a new comeback album, like many of the '90's R&B stars, such as: Torrey Carter, Nicole Wray, Mocha, Taral Hicks, and others.
