George F. Koob, Ph.D. (1947- ) is a Professor and Chair of the Committee on the Neurobiology of Addictive Disorders at The Scripps Research Institute and Adjunct Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Koob is a pioneering researcher in the field of substance abuse and stress. He has proposed, with Dr. Michel Le Moal, a contemporary model of drug addiction termed "the allostatic model of addiction". The term " addiction " is used in many contexts to describe an obsession compulsion or excessive Physical dependence or psychological dependence such as [1] [2] He is one of the most highly cited contemporary neuroscientists. [3] Dr. Koob has co-authored a book in collaboration with Dr. Le Moal. [4]
