History

The current province of Gelderland covers about the area of three of the quarters of the historical Duchy of Guelders. Gelderland can be devided in three parts: the Veluwe in the north, the Betuwe in the southwest and the Achterhoek or Graafschap (which literally means: County or Earldom) in the east. The Veluwe is a forest-rich ridge of hills in the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands. Betuwe is an area in the Netherlands in the province of Gelderland. The Achterhoek is a region in the eastern part of the Netherlands.
