Gargoyle Magazine is a literary journal based in Washington, D.C. and founded in 1976 by Russell Cox, Richard Peabody, and Paul Pasquarella. Washington DC ( formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, the District, or simply D Richard Peabody is an author and poet based in Washington DC A native of the region he is perhaps best known as one of the founding editors for Gargoyle Magazine By 1977, Peabody was the only original editor left. Peabody continued running the journal until 1990 with several different co-editors. Gargoyle was dedicated to printing work by unknown poets and fiction writers, as well as seeking out the overlooked or neglected. The magazine archive is housed in the Special Collections of Gelman Library at George Washington University. The George Washington University ( GW or GWU) is a private coeducational university located in Washington D The journal closed down in 1990 but resurfaced in 1997 with Peabody and Lucinda Ebersole as editors and continues to this day.
