Galton's Canal was a 1 mile 3 furlong canal with one lock connected to the River Brue, built in about 1801. Canals are artificial channels for water There are two types of canals water conveyance canals which are used for the conveyance and delivery of water and Waterways A lock is a device for raising and lowering boats between stretches of water of different levels on river and canal Waterways. River Brue originates in the parish of Brewham in Somerset, England. The canal took its name from its financer, Mr E Galton, who had the canal built in order to transport silt for fertiliser. The canal was abandoned in 1897.
