The Foundation of the Hellenic World (Ίδρυμα Μείζονος Ελληνισμού) is a privately funded non-profit cultural institution based in Athens since 1993. A non-profit organization ( abbreviated "NPO" also "not-for-profit" is a legally constituted Organization whose objective is to support or engage Athens (ˈæθənz Αθήνα Athina,) the Capital and largest city of Greece, dominates the Attica periphery as one of the world's Year 1993 ( MCMXCIII) was a Common year starting on Friday (link will display full 1993 Gregorian calendar)

Its mission is the preservation and dissemination of Hellenic history and tradition, the creation of an awareness of the universal dimension of Hellenism and the promotion of its contribution to cultural evolution. The Culture of Greece has evolved over thousands of years with its beginnings in the Mycenaean and Minoan Civilizations, continuing most notably into Classical Greece Its aim is the understanding of the past as a point of reference for the formation of the present and future so that contemporary thought may once again be inspired by the Hellenic spirit.

In 1998 the Foundation created an innovative cultural centre, Hellenic Cosmos, on a former industrial site of 63,000 m², at 254 Pireos Street. It is an ultra-modern, living museum of Hellenism, across the sciences, arts and every aspect of society: it aims to be a source of information that satisfies the needs of the contemporary ‘society of knowledge’. It is continuously creating and renewing exhibitions, publications (printed and electronic), film productions, Virtual Reality programs, unique in the world, as well as 3D reconstructions of monuments, even whole cities and recently has envisioned and built the “Tholos”, the new Virtual Reality “theatre”, which is scheduled to be opened on November 2006.

The FHW has already engaged in collaborations with important foundations and universities, to facilitate the creation of high quality digital educational material. Such collaborations and activities have evolved within the framework of European research and educational programmes.
