Flower chafers are a group of scarab beetles, subfamily Cetoniinae. The punctate flower chafer, Polystigma punctata, is a Beetle Species which occurs in Australia from central New South Wales Arthropods are Animals belonging to the Phylum Arthropoda (from Greek ἄρθρον arthron, " Joint " Insects ( Class Insecta) are a major group of Arthropods and the most diverse group of Animals on the Earth with over a million described Beetles are the group of Insects with the largest number of known Species. The family Scarabaeidae as presently defined consists of over 30000 species of Beetles worldwide William Elford Leach FRS ( 2 February 1790 – 26 August 1836) was an English Zoologist and Marine biologist The family Scarabaeidae as presently defined consists of over 30000 species of Beetles worldwide Many species are diurnal and visit flowers for pollen and nectar, or to browse on the petals. In Animal behavior, diurnality indicates an Animal that is active during the Daytime and rests during the Night. A flower, also known as a bloom or Blossom, is the reproductive structure found in Flowering plants (plants of the division Magnoliophyta, also Pollen is a fine to coarse powder consisting of microgametophytes ( pollen grains) which produce the male Gametes (sperm cells of Nectar is a Sugar -rich liquid produced by plants It is produced either by the Flowers in which it attracts pollinating animals or by extrafloral Some species also take fruit. The term fruit has different meanings dependent on context and the term is not synonymous in Food preparation and Biology. The group is also called fruit and flower chafers, flower beetles and flower scarabs. There are around 4,000 species, many of them still undescribed.
By morphological characters, the adults can be separated from the other scarabs by the combination of the following characters: epipleuron easily recognizable, border lateral of elytra sinuate and antennal insertion visible from above. The term morphology in Biology refers to the outward appearance ( Shape, Structure, Colour, Pattern) of an Organism The pleuron (pl pleura, from Greek side rib is a lateral Sclerite of thoracic segment of an Insect. An elytron (plural elytra) is a modified hardened Forewing of certain Insect orders notably Beetles (Coleoptera and true bugs ( Hemiptera Antennae (singular antenna) are paired Appendages connected to the front-most segments of Arthropods In Crustaceans they are Six tribes are normally recognized: Stenotarsiini, Schizorhinini, Gymnetini, Goliathini, Cetoniini, and Cremastocheilini, the last four are also found in the New World. The New World is one of the names used for the non-Eurasian/non-African parts of the Earth specifically the Americas and Australia. The tribe Gymnetini is the biggest of the American tribes, and Goliathini is only found in southern North America.
The group is in an urgent need of revision. Many of the taxa are poorly defined, based sometimes only in geographical distribution.
