Florø was founded as a town in 1860. The town used to constitute a municipality of its own, but was merged with Kinn, Bru and Eikefjord in 1964, forming Flora. Kinn is a small island west of the city of Florø in Flora Norway. Bru is a former municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county Norway. Eikefjord is a village and a former municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county Norway. After the discovery of petroleum in the North Sea in the 1960s, Florø has been used as a supply base for the petroleum industry.
