Flemings is a chain of supermarkets in Sydney, Australia. Woolworths Limited is a major Australian company with extensive retail interest throughout Australia and New Zealand. Internally they are known as Woolworths, feature the same marketing materials and carry the same home brand products. The four remaining Flemings supermarkets are located at Bexley North, Jannali, Pendle Hill and Umina Beach (on the Central Coast). Bexley North is a Suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Jannali is a Suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Pendle Hill is a Suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Umina Beach is a suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia, located south of Woy Woy on Broken Bay

History

The first Flemings stores were opened in 1930 by Jim Fleming Sr. Bexley North is a Suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. and George Fleming. They initially traded under the name "E. L. Lakin". Following World War II, the business boomed and the name changed to "Flemings Food Stores". By the time Flemings was sold out to Woolworths in June 1960, there were 55 stores operating under the "Flemings" banner in Sydney.

The Fleming family continued operating the chain through Woolworths for the next 10 years before they began operating the now-defunct Jewel Food Stores supermarket chain. Jewel Food Stores was a discount Supermarket chain in Australia that is now defunct Many Flemings stores were closed or re-badged as Woolworths, Woolworths Metro stores.

The current Flemings logo was launched in the early 1990s, although it is no longer internally used.
