The fetiales were priests in Ancient Rome, members of an order traditionally established by Numa Pompilius. Ancient Rome was a Civilization that grew out of a small agricultural community founded on the Italian Peninsula as early as the 10th century BC Numa Pompilius, according to Legend, was the second King of Rome, succeeding Romulus. Their duty was to make formal proclamation of peace and war, and confirm treaties. They also carried out the functions of traveling heralds or ambassadors.
