Fet was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Formannskaps-distrikt was the name for a Norwegian local self-government districts put into force in 1838. Rælingen was separated from Fet July 1, 1929. Rælingen is a municipality in the county of Akershus Norway.

Geography

Fet is located at the eastern coast of Lake Øyeren, and includes the point at which Glomma enters the lake. Øyeren is a Lake in the Glomma river watershed southeast of Lillestrøm. Glomma, also known as Glåma is the longest and largest river in Norway, 598 kilometers long The delta that has formed is the largest inland delta in Europe, and reaches the opposite shore of the lake, across its short axis. Timber floating down the river was extracted here before it entered the delta and then taken further by rail. This activity continued until the 1985. Today many of the floating buildings have been preserved and turned into a museum and cultural centre.
