Fenton v. Thorley [1903] WN 149 is an English tort law case from the House of Lords, which deals with the definition of an "accident". Tort law in England and Wales concerns civil wrongs as distinguished from criminal wrongs. The House of Lords is the second house of the Parliament of the United Kingdom and is also commonly referred to as "the Lords"

"'Accident' is used in the ordinary sense and means a mishap or untoward event not expected or designed. "
