Born in 1942 in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, Ms. ( Bengali: বাংলাদেশ inc-Latn Bangladesh) officially Fauzia Yasmin (Popularly known as Fauzia Khan) was one of the most popular vocal artistes of the then East Pakistan during the 1960s. Her father Mr. Lutfar Rahman belonged to former Provincial Civil Service of British India and her mother Begum Mouluda Khatun comes of an aristrocratic family of Murshidabad, who also was a vocal artiste taking music lessons from Ustaad Kader Baksh, an eminent musician.

Musical career

Fauzia Yasmin started her music lesson with the inspiration of her mother. She took music lessons from the distinguished musicians Ustaad Yousuf Khan Qureshi, and Ustaad Mohammad Fazlul Huq. She became a vocal artiste of the then Radio Pakistan in 1960. She took part in National Television programs since its inception in 1965. She used to perform Modern Bengali songs, Nazrul songs, Folk and Rhyme songs along with Urdu Geet and Ghazals. She was also a playback singer and rendered voice in a number of films. She has also discs with popular songs. She participated in musical conferences and soirees both home and abroad. She visited a number of countries including Pakistan, England, and Australia, and took part in music programs. She was accorded with many prestigious awards.

Academic career

Fauzia Yasmin took her degree in Master of Arts (M. A. ) in Bangla from the University of Dhaka and joined in teaching profession in T. The University of Dhaka (commonly referred to as Dhaka University or just DU) ( Bengali: ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় Đhaka and T. College, Dhaka, in 1971, until her voluntary retirement in 1999.

Family background

She is the second amongst five sisters. Her three other sisters Farida Yasmin, Nilufar Yasmin, and Sabina Yasmin are celebrated vocal artistes and well established in the world of Music in Bangladesh. Sabina Yasmin (সািবনা ইয়াসমীন is a popular singer of Bangladeshi origin Fauzia Yasmin is married to Mr. Mobarak Hossain Khan, a distinguished musicologist, musician and a writer, who retired from Government Service as the Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (National Academy of Fine and Performing Arts). Mobarak Hossain Khan (born 1938 is a music researcher music expert and musician of repute She is a proud mother of one daughter Reenat Fauzia (Sitarist, and Assistant Professor in Home Economics College, Dhaka), elder son Tareef Hayat Khan (Architect, and Assistant Professor in Ahsanullah University, Dhaka), and younger son Tanim Hayat Khan (an MBA, and currently teaching in Sydney).
